All about Hypnobirthing

E-mail
Hypnobirthing is a completely logical and extremely effective established method that lets you discover the joy and magic of birth, and is much more than just self-hypnosis or hypnotherapy.

It is deeply relaxing and effective, and allows your mind and your body to work in harmony, the way nature intended.  Hypnobirthing is your ante-natal training of choice.

How did Hypnobirthing Start?

Probably the person accredited with the origin of the term Hypnobirthing is Michelle Leclaire O'Neill in 1987 [www.leclairemethod.com], who authored books on the subject including "Hypnobirthing the Original Method".  Her work was based partly on previous research be English obstetrician Dr. Grantly Dick Reid.

Other people instrumental in the spread of Hypnobirthing include Marie Mongan who founded The US based HypnoBirthing Institute, and Michel Odent who did a great deal in the 1970s to promote the cause of homebirthing, and the use of birthing pools.

What is Hypnosis?

It is simply a way of releasing some of the un-helpful and debillitating beliefs and assumptions that we have acquired on our journey through life. It can actually control pain.
There is no magic to achieving success with self-hypnosis.
Almost anyone who chooses to can reach deep relaxation and redirected focus.
Hypnobirthing is simply words, used in a positive and focused way, to help you release your worries and concerns about giving birth.

You will experience your birthing in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, without the fear and tension that cause pain.  Your body’s natural anesthaesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that create pain.

The comment which is constantly made by midwives is 'I couldn't believe how calm she was', and 'I've never seen such an alert and chilled out baby.'

When it’s time for your baby to be born, you can be fully awake, involved and empowered by the experience.

Real HypnoBirthing Stories

Hope you are all well. Sorry it’s taken a while to get round to sending this, but wanted to let you all know that baby Jessica was born on March 10th, 7lb, all healthy, pink and screaming!

We were so close to our perfect home birth, but in the end it wasn’t meant to be – I successfully laboured at home, got to 10 cm dilated, and waters broke, with lovely midwife, who fully embraced the hypnobirthing techniques: she was quiet and discreet, and only examined me twice, and helped with the gentle touch massage (when Riaan had to go outside and rescue the dustbins halfway through the night - it was the night of the really big storm!)!!. Riaan was brilliant and I have to say all the practice really paid off, we were both calm and relaxed, and what surprised me the most was how powerful all the affirmations were – anytime I felt tired or any doubts crept into my mind, there were the affirmations popping into my head to keep me back on track.
