Risks of Hospital Procedures
June 22, 2008 – 9:08 pmWhen I teach a HypnoBirthing class, I try to forewarn mothers about what can happen if they get caught up on the conveyor belt of hospital protocols. I sometimes feel the class thinks I’m scaremongering, but it happens all too frequently. This weekend I had an email from a couple who were in gret distress because of the procedures they had been subjected to in hospital because they had become ‘high risk’. Fortunately I have the back-up of a wonderful independent midwife, Liz Nightingale, and she has now taken over the care of this mother who will be able to have the home birth she had planned. It turns out that most of the procedures she was subjected to in hospital were unnecessary, and one was positively dangerous to her life.
