You and your baby are special. Childbirth can be an empowering and positive event in your life – and one youwant to remember. With the help of hypnotherapy for birth and our HypnoBirth classes, the birth of your baby can be a more comfortable, calm, relaxed, natural and rewarding experience, and one where youare in control and you need less intervention from others.
You deserve special care as you make this exciting and unique journey with positive anticipation and confidence.
Soundly based in established anatomy, physiology and psychology, our HypnoBirthing courses teach you – and your husband or birthing partner - the HypnoBirthing techniques to achieve this; all the antenatal training you need.
Katharine was originally trained in the 'Mongan Method' by Marie Mongan herself. However, because of her considerable experience of teaching mothers in the UK, she has refined her methods to be more supportive of their needs, and now works independently from the American HypnoBirthing Institute.
The must-do antenatal course for all parents-to-be.
How did HypnoBirthing™ Start?
Probably the person accredited with the origin of the term HypnoBirthing is Michelle Leclaire O'Neill in 1987 , who authored books on the subject including "HypnoBirthing the Original Method". Her work was based partly on previous research by English obstetrician Dr. Grantly Dick Reid some 50 years ago.
Other people instrumental in the spread of HypnoBirthing include Marie Mongan who founded The US based HypnoBirthing Institute, and Michel Odent who did a great deal in the 1970s to promote the cause of homebirthing, and the use of birthing pools.

As you would expect, the HypnoBirthing courses are relaxed and enjoyable and provide you with support and confidence up to and beyond the birth of your baby. Your husband or birthing partner plays a key role throughout your pregnancy and child birth. Throughout the hypnosis for birth course we will show them how to give you the support you need to make your labour and delivery a loving, shared experience.
Please don't take our word for it. Why not take a look at the childbirth experiences of some of our previous childbirth hypnotherapy clients to see the amazing impact that hypnosis for birth can have on your special day.
Do it when you’re ready – the sooner the better as courses can get fully booked nearer the time. I’ve taught someone who gave birth two days later and it worked perfectly well, but I would rather you did it sooner if possible. . The Centre runs HypnoBirth Courses throughout the London area. See below for some of our locations.
The Benefits for your Baby
You decide to learn HypnoBirthing techniques for a more comfortable and often pain free birth, because that's what it does. But the greater significance in the long term is the effect it has on your baby.
If the birth is calm, gentle and drug free for you, it's also calm, gentle and drug free for your baby, so this little person arrives in the world alert, and with a mother who is alert and ready to receive it lovingly and attentively. Birth is the most formative experience of our life, and that first relationship your baby forms will in turn affect every other relationship throughout its life. This will have an effect not only on your baby as it grows and develops, but also on every other relationship it forms which will affect everyone it meets, and the significance of this cannot be over-estimated.
Also, because HypnoBirthing babies have no trauma to recover from, they tend to be more calm, serene and content. From the reports I get, they also seem to thrive better, sleep better, and develop quicker. It sometimes seems miraculous, but actually that's how it's designed to be, and what we have come to consider as the norm is an aberration that we have developed over time. The course helps you to overcome your fears and the HypnoBirthing breathing techniques and visualisations will help you achieve your positive birthing experience.

"Your Hypnosis for Birth course was invaluable in allowing me to keep calm throughout. The experience of being there to see her birth was just magical for us both and we enjoyed a relaxing time afterwards drinking tea and eating toast, bonding with the baby."
*Statistic from the American HypnoBirthing Institute in 2007
The effect of one CD...
At an antenatal visit a mother came in almost shaking with fear: Her pulse was 127 and her baby's heart was 167. She was put on the monitor for 20 minutes and at the same time her midwife suggested she listen to Katharine's CD Colour and Calmness. When she was tested again: Her pulse was 97 and the baby's heart was 140.
This was in a busy hospital antenatal unit, took only 20 minutes, and was the effect of one CD. How much more can you achieve with the whole HypnoBirthing course?
Thank you to Samantha for these statistics.
